With Woman/Search for One Clinical Opportunity, dates TBD in August, 2011: clinical trip for one student to Kiribati, which is in the South Seas.... very small island. The site does about 130 births each month, including vaginal twins and breeches; they have a 3% C-section rate. The student going should be flexible, as this is the first trip there for a student - meaning that navigating relationships with the resident staff may require some flexibility. Student will attend births supervised by a CPM/licensed midwife, but working out details is part of what this trip entails. The student needs to have some hands-on experience attending births; this trip is NOT for a student who is very new or is not ready to start catching. She needs to have basic skills for dealing with complications, even if only assisting in those circumstances.... e.g Neonatal Resuscitation, use of hemorrhagic drugs, basics of setting an IV, etc. Cost is $3050 and includes airfare, room, board, transportation and clinical supervision/work. Please contact us at info@withwoman.org.

In order to establish midwifery practices or clinics, we are in need of experienced midwives willing to relocate overseas for extended periods of time and to diligently work on the project. If you are interested in participating in this area, please contact us for more information.

With Woman Clinical Opportunities

With Woman is currently working with the
Perinatal Institute of Uruguay in Uruguay, and helping to fund a birth center there. We hope to have the clinic open by May, 2011. The center will be run by a local midwife near Montevideo and will accept students for clinical experience.

We are also in the process of developing a plan for at least one birth center to operate in Guatemala. The center will serve the women of the area who now birth at the hospital in less-than-optimal conditions. In addition, we hope to establish a working relationship with the traditional midwives, many of whom have been ostracized and have discontinued practice.

We are currently working in cooperation with midwives in Argentina to offer clinical experience. Some positions are available now. Please contact us for further information.

Be sure to check back for new opportunities!
